Shooting Luxury Home Exteriors for Vilhauer Construction in Washington State
There is something deeply satisfying about photographing a home that was built with intention — where every material choice, every roofline, and every outdoor living space tells a story about craftsmanship. That is exactly the kind of work Vilhauer Construction brings to the Pacific Northwest, and I was honored to photograph two of their completed luxury homes this season in Washington State. Vilhauer Construction has built a reputation as one of the region's premier custom home builders, specializing in high-end residential construction that blends architectural detail with livable elegance. From striking modern prairie exteriors clad in cedar and dark brick to timeless colonial-inspired facades with arched entries and dormer windows, their portfolio is a study in variety done right. For this commercial real estate photography shoot, the goal was to showcase the full scope of their craftsmanship — capturing curb appeal, outdoor living areas, and the architectural details that set each home apart. One property featured a breathtaking covered outdoor living space with a cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling, an outdoor fireplace, infrared ceiling heaters, and expansive sliding glass doors that blur the line between inside and out. The other showcased a classic brick two-story with beautifully manicured landscaping, charming dormer windows, and a welcoming front porch designed for year-round entertaining. Shooting completed construction for builders like Vilhauer Construction is one of my favorite types of commercial photography work. The images serve a real purpose — they become the cornerstone of a builder's marketing, living on their website, in print portfolios, and across social media as proof of what they are capable of building.
