Clean Desk, Fully Charged — Photographing the Loma Living Modular Charging Dock

Product photography is always more fun when you actually love what you're shooting, and the Loma Living Modular Custom Charging Dock earned its place on my desk before I'd even finished the shoot.

The brief was simple — a few clean, high-end images that show the product clearly and make it look as good as it actually is. Loma Living makes a multi-device wireless charging station built from beautiful walnut wood with interchangeable felt panels in different colors, and it is exactly the kind of object that photographs well because it's genuinely well-designed. The warm wood grain against a marble surface, the satisfying geometry of the three charging zones, the soft felt texture in charcoal or light grey — it all holds up beautifully under a camera.

I styled the shots with things from my own life, which is always my preference for product work — it reads more real that way. My Zenni glasses (because I am a photographer who is completely blind without them, which is a fun irony I live with daily) went into the tray. My phone, wallpapered with one of my favorite Pacific Northwest landscape shots, sat on the wireless charging pad mid-charge — that glowing green charging ring looks great in a photograph, it turns out. And for the top tray, I used a journal I actually sell — the cover features my own art, and if you want one, you can grab it on Amazon. It felt right to style a shoot about a creative, organized workspace with things that are actually part of mine.

The interchangeable felt is one of those product details that's easy to underestimate until you're looking at both colorways in front of you and realizing how much it changes the whole feel of the piece. The charcoal felt reads moody and minimal. The light grey feels cleaner and softer. Both work. That kind of versatility is worth showing, so we did.

Loma Living makes the kind of product that solves a real problem beautifully, which is my favorite category of thing to photograph. If you have a clean desk product, a tech accessory, or any kind of well-designed object that needs images that do it justice, this is exactly what I love to shoot.
